Not sure which advice you found, but if you do not have the regular removal tool, a Crescent wrench adjusted to the tubing size pushing against the removal collar will take it off.

Actually you are partly correct. It would not be the first time I have used a smaller version of that "TOOL" applied to the side of the Crescent wrench to persuade a tight SB fitting to surrender.

I'm guessing its the way of the future!

I'd never use a SB for a permanent installation.

Copper should always be used in some degree, but DIYs look for quicker/easier ways to install pipe, not necessarily better ways.
