bought a Zoeller M-53 and there’s something unclear to me in the install instruction regarding need for weep hole in discharge. There are two plastic plugs in the pump housing and it sounds like you could remove them (both or only one?) negating the need for a weep hole in the discharge pipe. Is this true? There are statements written on the box indicating the need for a weep hole and cryptic messages in the instruction sheet making it sound like you don’t.

Can anyone clarify?

Thanks in advance!

you do NOT always"need" the hole, but if the pump drains the basin dry, it will become airbound, and THEN you WILL NEED, the hole. The plugs on the pump housing have NOTHING to do with purging air from the volute.

Hey, wait a minute.

This is awkward, but...
