Hello. What's causing these yellow stains on the walls in my full bath? I noticed the pex in the crawlspace has the same thing going on. Originally thought this was lindseed oil issue from the paint the previous owners used (eggshell vs semi-gloss) but the staining is around the sink drain and shower curtain as well. Shower curtain seems to be more reddish but not noticeable in attached image. My bath towels harden/feel sandpapery after two uses as well.

The city flushed the hydrant adjacent to my home thinking it was an iron problem but that didn't fix the issue. I also think this has impacted my dog's health so have been giving him filtered water from the fridge instead of the tap.

Hope this info helps and appreciate the pointers. Happy Veterans Day and thank you for your service.

Chris

1. The "pex staining.png" photo got my attention. One pipe has what looks like iron deposits inside, and one does not. What is different-- hot vs cold, softened vs unsoftened, or what?

2. Wall stains look like shampoo drops or liquid soap drops. Does water on a cloth rubbed on those wash those off ? Expect water to not wash off rust stains, but expect straight household vinegar applied for a time to take off rust stains.

Thanks reach.
1. Suggestions on how to get rid of iron deposits? Not sure which one is stained-hot or cold-and need to check.

2. Yes the drips wipe off with dry paper towel. Never had the problem before wherever I lived. Probably repaint properly using kilz and semigloss?

Iron deposits inside PEX pipe. I would ignore it, and wish I had use colored pipe for appearance reasons. But if I did want to get that out, I guess I would recirculate an Iron Out powder solution.

Do you have a water softener?

Let's try to figure out what pipe has the iron.

I have the same issues with the walls in my kids bathroom. Long hot showers. It's nasty and sticky. Looks like they are bleeding yellow goop. From what I read it's because of the paint. I don't remember why, but I recently repainted in the last year and it did it before and after. It doesn't just happen in the shower area, which I thought it was soap or something, it happens outside of the shower too. I use the same paint in the master bath and the rest of the house and don't have the issue. I just know every few months I have to take a bucket of cleaner and wash the walls down.
