Dirty burners and or low gas pressure. Pilot lights makes flame rod, gas valve opens up pulls flame from flame rod, valve shuts off, pilot must relite make flame rod. Recycles but it should lock out after could of cycles.

Could also be a bad gas valve. It all should be blue flame and at the beginning the right burners look red. Trace down that clicking noise if you can I would start at the gas valve.

This is a good video as an example why all heating systems need annual cleaning and inspection.
