My well is now 25 years old and getting noisy. Some of my neighbors have already replaced their pumps 2x over the same time period mine has been running.

I'm thinking it would be a good idea to replace the pump now - on my schedule, before it fails. I think I can do this myself.

But I'm not sure what size submersible pump I have. The well is 350ft deep. I'm in central FL.
One neighbor said his pump is 3HP.

I'm told there are some pumps better suited for sandy soils/conditions. Also there is a lot of iron in the water.

I'll get the Pump, hose/pipe, cable/wire, connectors/clamps, controller. Anything else?

I also plan to use flexible poly-pipe unless I'm told otherwise.

Any recommendations on pump brands or models (like Franklin or Goulds or ?) that would be better suited for my location?

If you have a 3HP set at 350', it is probably not a Do It Yourself job. You maybe able to set the new pump on poly pipe, but you will probably need a hoist truck to get the old one out. I don't think there is much difference in most pumps these days, and none of them will handle sand or abrasives very well.

The pump is selected based on how deep the water can be rather than how deep the hole is.

Thanks for the warning Valveman. I would hate to get everything torn apart and then find out I don't have the muscle to get the old pump out.

I was just looking at Goulds pumps. They have a model that they say is designed for sandy conditions (I suppose they all have a model that claim the same).

So should I just hire a well company and trust them to provide the best product?
