What is the standard practice for a service appointment?

As long as I started this thread I may as well admit something someone did here is a continuing mystery to me...is there any chance that if a person calls one well company and interviews them about what they might or might not do, and that company perceives the possibility of making a service call (whether or not they are invited to make one), that they might, for whatever reason, pass the information to ANOTHER company, as, say, a sub-contractor who might then attempt to make a call?

Yea unusual I dont give a clients contact info to another contractor unless on a rare occasion client asks me too have Contractor call them . Ive had contractors ask me to call a client and I start the conversation by Introducing myself and that Im a plumbing Contractor joe blow thier electriction said that you needed plumbing something like that

Which part?
1. Checking if the well driller in the next county wants to consider offering the job?
2. Passing address information to a different driller.
3. Getting a referral fee?

#1 seems reasonable... maybe his rig is better matched to the job, you are booked up for months, etc.

I called a company and told my story . First time someone said they can jet out the well and quoted a me price. He showed up in truck with another company's name on it. I asked why. He says he "works for" the company I called. I show him the stuck pump. He neither touches nor requests the power on to it. He says "we are going to leave this excatly the way it is, you still get water right?" He proceeds to discuss sites/prices for a new well AFTER which he will work on the old one he says might get damaged or get fixed.

Verbal new well estimate seems dream-like low. When he begins to leave I ask to pay. He refuses money but has me write some contact information on a clipboard to send me a formal estimate. Then the tone changes. He says "you see I have been out here before". I ask how/when, maybe old owners from 20+ year past. No answer. I am guessing either he knows something about my old well from yesteryear he doesn't want to disclose, or he was sent out to an "opportunity" by someone else I had discussed my problem with, then found a locked gate with no confirmed appointment...thus my previous question on this thread.

He leaves. Days later instead of a quote I get an invoice that just says "labor" with no date of service. I ask if I can get a date of service and some clarity that I am dealing with the company I thought I was and not whatever their truck said, and again express my full willingness to pay even if they said they didn't want it. No answer. Phone tag. I can't figure out why they wouldn't accept $$ then send a bill, then not at least make the bill specific...like if it said "service call on dd/mm/yy" I would have sent them a check right away, or paid them on-site as offered.

There is no way labor was done without my knowledge....my property is locked at all time and the well is in a locked building. I am
mystified. I even said I was getting quotes and to send me one. Nothing. I think about this too much...this happens when I run into people on drugs.

Edit: BTW, I don't expect anyone to comment on this except generally perhaps...I'm not naming names...I am just truly mystified...like I am not good at "tricky stuff" if that is what this is. I wonder if this is because I look really old because I would be poor
at recognizing that as "in play" also. The world seems to have changed a lot since I went toe to toe with it.

That does seem like an odd set of events. Can't say I've ever experienced that, and I definitely wouldn't show up unannounced to someone's property on purpose.

Thanx. That makes sense to me too. It might be that I'm the only one around here not to have some sort of banner flying. Two wellwater guys wearing oversized sidearms came out here years ago. Instead of asking me about my problem one started with: "I hope you're not one of these people who likes XXXXX".


I had to explain VERY SLOWLY that I actually went to the courthouse and formally extinguished my own right to vote, and as a result no longer get called for jury duty every year. They happily proceeded to begin the job that ended with "you have a stuck pump" ,
and charged me half-price. This saga persists in the state they left it yet seems to be reincarnating.

Without getting into details, somone was doing something they shouldn't have been doing. Trouble is I am still not sure who or which, just glad I have gates that lock.
