Last week my well went out and I change the control box, that last one was less than a year old but the wire going to the black thing in the box was discolored and replacing it restored water. Last night it went out again, my son said he saw sparking coming from control box and I can confirm there is sparking. Pressure tank was change last year to a brand new one and pressure switch is a year old as well. I'm afraid I may have to pull the pump and replace the wires or pump. When we pulled it last year I did make a few repairs on the wire where previous repairs where made and over time opened up allowing water back into them preventing power to the pump. My control box cuts on and sparks and makes rapid clicks before stopping.

If the breaker did not trip, you might want to just replace the control box. If that fixes the problem, that would be nice. But there is a risk that that money would be wasted.

If you are up to it, you could isolate the wires that go to the well pump. Then do some resistance measurements. That could show up some gross problem with the pump or wiring.

The control box is only a week old, I'm about to replace it right now, I don't have the best tools but I do have a tester. It's a 30 dallor one from lowes
