We recently purchased an older farm house. It has a 100 year old well with two surface well pumps. There are two existing holes in 3 inch diameter. One is 50 feet deep and the other is 140. Water level for the last however many years has been at about five or six feet below ground level. This well has supplied three houses for ages. Last fall the water level fell to 28-30 feet and the pumps will not draw water. I rebuilt one pump and replaced the other to no difference. My local pump supplier told me that a surface type pump cannot pull from this deep. We ended up going to local hardware store and purchased a one horse power inexpensive pump and hooked a 1 inch hose to it. With a foot valve on the end of the hose it has drawn water and supplied the three homes all winter long. Not a ton of pressure or volume but we've survived. Does anyone make a submersible pump in the 2-2.5 diameter range that we would could drop into either one of the existing 3 inch casing? The eventual plan is to drill a new hole for a standard 4 inch pump buy finances don't allow for it right now. Any ideas?

Thanks
Rick

The Grundfos SQ pumps will fit into a 3 inch casing.

I think they are 2.68 diameter, but check further before proceeding.
