I installed a new tub/shower faucet (project source) and when I turned my main water supply back on the faucet continually forcefully have water come out spout with knobs turned off. If I turn knobs on the water is more forceful. How do I get the water to stop? What's is wrong with it?

One potential problem is your indoor water pressure. Get a water pressure gauge and measure your pressure in a few locations (like a hose bibb, washing machine). If it shows more that 75-80, you many need a pressure reducing valve. If you have one, it may be defective.
