I just did the new install today. Went through 1 recycle of regeneration. I notice the water "smells". (and definitely no smell when i bypass the water softener). I read that a few more regenerations might help. Is it common ?? If it doesn't help, should i go with the method of adding a bit of bleach to brine tank and do one regeneration ?

Thanks

5.25% Sodium Hypochlorite
If stronger solutions are used, such as those
commercial laundries, adjust the dosage accordingly.

Dosage for softener resin; 1.2 fluid ounce (35.5 ml)
per cubic foot.

Thanks. Will try it out.
Also, any pros/cons using those commercial resin cleaner products out there on a regular basis ?

Pro: treat resin for iron.
Con: not cheap.

Some use citric acid (smells good) or Iron Out crystals (smells not good but very effective) to treat iron. Iron-treating salt costs a premium, but has citric acid and something else built in.

Try searching for "smell" in the softener forum using the search box above.
