We just had hurricane Irene last weekend. And the other day I noticed water droplets in 2 distinct lines on the ceiling in my baby's room. The upstairs bathroom is above her room. Our upstairs toilet likes to run a lot. Now. I removed the toilet, the wax ring is horrible, so I am going to replace that. But I noticed a running water sound when I got close to the drain below the toilet. Anybody have any ideas? I know both of my pipes couldn't be busted. I don't want to cut my ceiling open just to find they aren't you know? Couldn't just be the wax ring being bad causing water to leak down the pipes? Or could there be a bigger issue. My husband is on deployment and with our new baby we can't afford to hire a plumber. So any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!!

1) Are you hearing water or seeing water?

2) If one toilet is constantly running, then you may need to replace the flapper in the tank. The part should be less then $15 and the hardware stores will carry them. Changing the wax ring does not fix a leak from the tank.

If you don't see water, then I would check for things like leaking flappers. Food dye in the tank will show in the bowl if the flapper isn't sealing.

If the toilet is constantly running, you need to fix that and it might be a flapper replacement. Also, if the water is constantly running, it might get cold enough to cause the pipe to sweat from condensation, so that might be your problem. Hard to say without being there.
