Just had a new softener installed. The plumber left the old one, disconnected but still has salt and water in the brine tank. It is in the cellar - with no floor drain. Can I use a condensate pump to drain the water out/ will the salty brine ruin the condensate pump? (the only other option is to take a bucket and carry the salt water up the stairs. )

If the salt does not look dirty, you could scoop the top part into the new brine tank.

You have septic I presume?

The softener discharge works fine with a condensate pump, just watch your flow rates, also a condensate pump will fail eventually, consider what would happen if it did and plan accordingly.
