I would like to reroute a washing machine drain to the same drain pipe as a sink. The system is in my 85 year old mothers condominium. She recently had a water filter fail and it sprayed the drywall which we had to remove. Once the drywall was removed I noticed the washing machine drain was connected to the wrong drain.

It is actually connected to a water runoff drain from the roof that leads directly to the bay. (she is on the water) I would like to correct this since we have the drywall removed and can access everything now. Also another note, the sink I want to connect to has numerous cracks and we need to replace it so that can now be done with less work.

So here is the project:
1. remove and cap washer drain at runoff pipe
2. replace bathroom sink
3. add wye and 1/8 bend or combo to bathroom sink drain and connect washer drain

Thank you in advance for your help.
Regards,
Chris

The washer should get a 2" trap and standpipe. With some washers 1.5" won't be enough. The trap will need to be vented, six inches above flood level of the fixtures. Normally this is about 42" above the floor. That vent can tie into an existing vent.
