I noticed that fumes from the front right burner are not fully captured - the fan is
in the left rear. A column of fumes passes upwards in front of the hood
The current fume hood sticks out 20", which is 2" short of the front edge
of the new glass cooktop. My appliance dealer has one that sticks out 22",
a Broan Elite Alta. One year warranty which seems very short.
Any suggestions for a better quality unit?
Is there some construction standard that can be consulted for the depth ?
I just don't know how far behond the cooktop it should extend, to catch all the upwards
moving fumes.
The current hood is a 30" wide GE-Profile 400CFM hood. Installed 7/23 during a kitchen
remodel. The new cooktop sticks out a bit further than the old stove, but I just took the
dimensions of the old hood. Didn't realize the cooktop was deeper or that it mattered. I don't
do the cooking so I only recently noticed the fumes rising when frying some bacon.
This hood has already had the motor replaced for vibrations, and now it is failed again, even
worse. At High, it bangs violently against something. The dealer thinks it is due to a warped fan
shroud, which is plastic and not in the replacement parts catalogue. They can replace the motor
again for warranty, but the installation is not free, so I may as well pay to install a new deeper hood.
Otherwise I might remove the plastic shroud and see if I can use heat to fix whatever is warped.
