Hi All,

Not sure if this is the right place but figured someone here ought to have some advice. I have recently replaced a Standard (pre-AS) cast iron double basin kitchen sink, which had been used as a basement utility sink for probably 60+ years if not more... I had thought it was 40's-50's era but turns out it was cast in December 1927.

I was cleaning it up for photos to post online for sale... figured I'd get like 80 bucks for it but decided to Google first, which is where I discovered the actual age. Now it suddenly seems a bit more special than I had taken it for.

From the pics you can see it definitely needs refinishing, and it has worn through on the deep basin drain, but nowhere near rusted through w/ no leaks.

Any idea of a decent resource to value old cast sinks in less-than-perfect condition?

Thanks!

My opinion of this is its all about finding the right buyer. There is a non profit that sells salvaged items from houses that have been abandoned in my town. They have things priced based on condition and rarity. But to come to those prices the people who run this store have been salvaging and pricing these things for many years. I bought an old register with a damper flap from them for $40 because I really needed it and it matched. They have rooms full of old plumbing fixtures the problem is most people want modern plumbing fixtures and don't value keeping that part of a house in its original state. Finding someone who needs that item could make it worth a lot, but as you said it needs work.
