Hello all. I am in need of a plumber to verify what I’m thinking is correct. I am installing a utility sink in the basement. There is a 3” vertical drain line that I want to attach to. I believe it could act as a vent if it only had one other non-toilet fixture above, but I think it drains one full bathroom including a toilet. So, can I put a san-tee on the horizontal part of my 1.5” pipe and put an AAV? Also, is there a minimum length of horizontal pipe from the sink to the vertical drain? Just want to make sure water doesn’t flow so fast it sucks the water out of the p-trap. Thanks for any help!

I am not a plumber. You need 3 or more inches (two pipe diameters) of horizontal between the U of the trap and the vertical of the pipe that holds the AAV. None of your pictures show the AAV way, but you will need the AAV.

The Rectorseal 97402 Magic Trap with the Rectorseal 97400 AAV, if the AAV clears the bottom of the sink, could add the vent you need. It does not need perfect alignment. I have not used or seen one of those. Since you have plenty of space, you probably don't need that.

I have not used or seen one of those either. Starting from the 3 inch, you can have the santee 1.5 inch side port come out along the side wall. Then have an AAV atop a combo (combination wye+45 and enough pipe to keep the AAV 4 inches ore more above the horizontal pipe. Then elbow toward the drain, trap adapter, and a slip joint p-trap to the sink drain.

Post a photo of what you end up with.

Couplings should have the metal wrap to prevent the pipes from shifting out of alignment over time.

I didn’t buy the AAV yet, so it’s not shown. Thanks. :)
