I'm installing a couple of upstairs laundry units for some clients. I want to protect them, as best as possible, against potential washing machine leaks or burst hoses.

My plan is to install a pan with a floor drain / trap primer under the washer. This should help to take care of any possible machine leaks.

What are the thoughts on automatic valves to shut-off the water supply in case of a leak or burst hose? Are they worth it, or should I just have the homeowner change out the hoses every 5-years. Are there ones you recommend or ones that should be avoided?

Hey, wait a minute.

This is awkward, but...
