Upgrade for line pressure

Hello. I formerly had a 60-65 foot deep 36 inch well. The original pump was a 3/4 hp convertible (shallow/deep) jet pump which gave us around 40 psi @ 2.5 gpm. We replaced it with a 1hp pump that gave us steady 50 psi @ 4gpm. Well ran dry and we were able to get county water but the pressure is about 35 psi @ 2gpm which is pitiful by comparison to what the Well had been providing. Is there any way I can disconnect the pump from the well and use it as a booster? The 35 gallon tank is still there and is only about 2 years old. If this setup can't be used, can you recommend a way of boosting pressure and/or volume? Thanks in advance for any help.

A shallow well jet pump makes a good booster pump. But you need a supply of more than 2GPM to boost. If the county water can supply say 10-15 GPM at 5 PSI, the booster will work. If the county can only supply 2 GPM, a cistern or storage tank is needed. The cistern can be filled slowly with well water or county water so a sufficient supply is available for the booster to work with. A 35 gallon pressure tank only holds 8 gallons of water. It will work, but adding a Cycle Stop Valve will make it work immensely better.
