I currently have a whole house soft water/carbon filtration system installed. However, I'm looking into an under the sink filter (in kitchen) to just have safe and good tasting water for drinking and cooking. Since I have had an RO system in the past and did not like the taste of the water, I would like to look at with a single or double stage filter that can ensure I have safe clean and good tasting water. Thanks for the help!

It is hard to help without knowing what problems you are having with the water and your existing whole house soft water/carbon filtration system. Is there something in the water that makes it unsafe? For improved taste I would use an Granular Activated Carbon (GAC) filter but it sounds like you already have that. What size are your existing filters? How often are they being changed? Are you planning to do away with your existing whole house system? Have you done a water sample to know what the problems are?

Hi Smooky,

The current soft water/carbon system I currently have is working great. This is similar to what I have in my house: http://www.discountwatersoftener.net/image/95446841.jpg. I believe it is a 32k system. The TDS coming from this water is 208 if that means anything.

Wanting to add an under the sink filter is more precautionary the anything. With all the construction in our area, it seems like they are having a boil water notice at least once a month and just want to ensure that I'm still able to have clean water regardless.

An under sink carbon or sediment filter will not reduce TDS or remove bacteria. You will still have to boil water.

Maybe a POU UV system is what you are looking for

There are many certified cyst reduction systems available. Empress, the maker of the Votech Tank, makes one of the best undersink filter systems we have seen. It is designed to feed the regular kitchen faucet instead of just a drinking water faucet. It is compact but it can handle the higher capacities and flow rates of the kitchen faucet.
