Hi,

I need to do a repair on the 1” water main under the slab.

My research showed that the fitting needs to be brazed (not soldered). However I couldn’t find out if pex fitting is ok?
Ideally I would transition to pex, the reroute the pex out of the slab (20ft to go).

Is a brass pex fitting under slab ok?
Either PEX-B or PEX-A ok here?

This would be a lot cheaper than getting soft copper type K (as L and M are not ok for under slab).

Thank you

Brass can be soft solder, 45% or15% silver solder or stay brite 8. Using a torch close to concrete isn't any fun it will hiss, pop and explodes small pieces from moisture soaked into it flashes into steam. Wear gloves, face shield, long sleeve shirt and put something around your neck.

You can't braze copper to brass without a special flux and I doubt anyone locally knows for sure the procedure. Maybe you do know the procedure, it's not common.

I think a flared connection is legal. Just use copper to come up out of the slab. Your can braze it easily and K should last a very long time. There's no good way to convert from copper to pex under a slab other than ignoring the code and soldering it.

Soft copper might make for an easier install with the proPress. I am picturing that rigid copper pipe might be harder to get into place. I suspect there is no ProPress repair coupling.
