I am installing a Rohl shower mixer (shower only, no tub) http://www.rohlhome.com/common/prodimg/sm/RPC1.jpg in a tight space.
It will fit ok if I turn the rough-in mixer 90 degrees (and add the corresponding bends).
Question is, if I turn the mixer, can I also turn the trim 90 degrees, and still have the fixture look and operate properly?
Thanks,
Dave

Most trims (maybe not all) would also need to be turned 90-degrees. They usually have a weep hole at the bottom to allow any moisture that gets behind from spray to drip out. Probably won't work well.

Thanks.

How about completely upside down? (i.e. could I use the shower only mixer as a tub only mixer?

I think I can turn the trim 180 to fix the weep hole issue. Any other concerns?

The cartridge in some valves can be swapped 180-degrees to accomodate say back to back installations where the hot and cold feed both, and you'd have to cross things over otherwise.

The trims are usually held in by two screws, so flipping the valve 180 isn't a problem.

Just curious... but why?

Same question

this is a test right?

as far as the weep hole.... if you apply a little bit of clear caulking we won't have any spray go into the wall.... I have understood that the weep hole is for condisation... is that right?

valve

Almost no trim plates have a "weep hole" in them. If you invert the valve, how does that help you with the installation? You have to be certain the trim will fit the inverted valve, or any writing will be upside down. (And if you rotate it 90 degrees the lettering will be sideways.)
