Seeking advice on best way to fix my tub mess. Bain acrylic self-supporting drop-in tub. The builder built the deck, completely tiled it in, THEN decided to see if it fit. Nope. Deck too short, combined with unlevel subfloor, resulted in tub sitting almost 1/2" above the deck on one end. The "fix" was digging out the subfloor to make it fit. Still not enough room to bed the tub in concrete (or other suitable bedding material), so the builder applied a shallow mix of construction adhesive and thinset mortar . The tub sits directly over an accessible crawl space. I know it is essential that the full weight of the tub must rest on its bottom, which can't easily be confirmed given the unorthodox install. To make matters worse, the corner of the tub cracked during setting. The builder proposes fixing the crack but claims the install is consistent with sound practices. I know that's not right, but I'm trying to figure out possible solutions aside from ripping everything out and starting over.

They fix fiberglass cracks all the time. Thank God for that. :) That's not a problem.

Maybe you can mark where the bottom ridge is and remove just enough plywood to allow the tub to sit down. It looks like just a little will do it.

Thanks, Terry.
The first pic showing the tub sitting slightly above the deck was taken before the subfloor was grooved out. The resulting problem is that too much floor was grooved out and now at least some of the tub rim is bearing weight.

Hey, wait a minute.

This is awkward, but...
