Trying to replace an old A.S. cartridge

I'm working on an old American Standard Reliant shower valve, I think it's a 1495 series? I can find replacement cartridges for it, but I'm wondering if anyone knows how to remove the old cartridge? Any help would be much appreciated as my local plumbers told me to just replace the entire valve.
