Long time lurker, first time poster. Posts in here have gotten me out of several plumbing jams in the past.

Now I have about the lamest, yet highly wife-angering, problem. We have a Newport Brass I-540 valve that, thanks to very (very) hard water, loves to clog up. I routinely pull the cartridge and clean it. Except now the hot side check valve is also fairly restricted, which is really limiting hot flow. The check valve face has a wide slot, for a wide-blade screwdriver. But it's way too tight to remove with a screwdriver, and putting a wrench on the screwdriver doesn't help. The valve is round, so there's no putting a wrench on it, either. Uh, ideas?

This is the valve:

Thanks in advance for any help.
