Just recently I started hearing a loud moving water/trickling noise from the shower drain (about 6 feet away) after flushing. It lasts for about a minute and then stops. No external evidence of leaking. This is a new sound on an approximately 15 year old American Standard toilet, and the sound is NOT coming from the toilet itself. Thank you for any insight you can provide!

If you don't use that particular shower often, run some water down the drain to refill the trap.

Could it be that your hearing recently improved?

Toilets are typically slightly overfilled. Newer ones try to minimize that. Any excess water that goes into the bowl just trickles down the drain, and it can take a little while for things to stabilize. You might also notice that when using the toilet, as the bowl is starting full, and anything added, causes a little to drain over the weir and down the drain.

Normally, if the trap is full in the shower, you wouldn't hear it from the drain, but might from the pipes themselves. If the trap is getting siphoned dry because of improper venting, that is an issue.

Hey, wait a minute.

This is awkward, but...
