trying to replace my anode but can't get the old one out. the heater is 5yrs old. I even bought a new high power air impact driver but no dice. I could get a 10ft pipe on the end of my breaker bar but I think that would just tear the whole thing out from the plumbing. there's got to be a trick to this??

Have water in the water heater. More air pressure on the impact wrench. Bigger impact wrench.

I broke the first cheap impact wrench I bought for the purpose on the first day. Took it back and upgraded from the 1/2 inch to the 3/4 inch. That was barely enough.
