So, I'm new to this but I have a tap that has a thin copper line that runs to a drain in the floor which feeds (my understanding) a trap that is approx 6 ft away in the floor to keep it wet. There is a slight smell of methane(sewage) sometimes. It is not very strong but noticeable from time to time. I am trying to find a way to either get rid of it altogether or at least the smell. Any help would be appreciated.

It's easy enough to shine a light and see if there is water there.
If not, you can pour some in, or look at the fitting below the sink to see if that needs repair. The trap primer may not be keeping it filled.
