If I remember, the special bolts come with the toilet, not the seat. The seat comes with "normal" bolts to attach it to lesser toilets (or those Totos where you actually do have access to the bolt to attach a nut).

Our installer is a young and enthusiastic fellow--(i.e. a "who-needs-instructions?!!" type). I'll make sure to go over this advice with him when we get to the toilet installation part of the job.

answer to my own question:

According to their website-Toto's softclose seat IS an Upgrade.

Mine came with the soft close included in full price as I recall..(?)
Or they just "loaded" the deal which is possible of course.

Mark my words...when the 90210/Hamptons crowd get word of this appliance, Toto wont be able to keep them in stock.
It takes the wind out of the sails for these pricey uber-designer toilets and for a nominal cost.
