I see the open ended torque wrenches like the one Yellow Jacket sells. Can I use my standard torque wrench with a crow foot adapter?

Thanks!

Yes. http://www.engineersedge.com/manufacturing_spec/torque_wrench_1.htm describes the math you need.

They also have crowfoot wrenches for flare fittings, which grip more places to avoid rounding.

Installed a lot of pipe, and the only thing I have ever torqued to a spec. is the clamps on Fernco couplers, and that was because they provided the tool to do it.

Don't you think that your hand is calibrated pretty well? A person with less experience might benefit from a torque wrench because he is not used to what "right" feels like.

Reach, I know how you like to research. I have never seen a torque spec. for installing threaded pipe fittings. The measured torque would not be the same with different thread sealing compounds or teflon tape either.

The OP has never specifically stated what they are connecting to either. I might apply a different torque to a water heater connection than I ever would a frost-free sillcock, despite that they are the same sized fittings.

I assumed the OP was asking about AC lines, since this thread is in the HVAC forum.
