I bought a new house a few years ago. The house is built on a concrete slab with drain pipes literally cast in concrete. They used offset flanges to make up the differences. I just had to remove a toilet for flooring work, and found the attached, which seems to be much more offset than I expected.
If I understand what I'm seeing, they put the toilet on a wax ring offset from the offset flange because, even with the offset flange, the hole is too far "up". The top of the photo (up) is a wall. With the toilet installed this way, the toilet tank is nearly touching the wall. That explains why they shifted the wax ring forward.
Perhaps that explains why this toilet is so easy to clog.
Not that it matters, but I wonder if this is against code.
More importantly, is there anything that can be done to make this more appropriate, like a second offset flange?
Thank you for your advice.
