I would have loved to see how those were plumbed in the walls.
Sometimes people use a back to back fitting and water can cross over and push water and air into the other arm. It could also be that a vent was skipped. One flush affecting the other is becoming more common as more toilets switch to a faster flush with the 3" flush valves.

Thanks for the reply. The American Standard toilet is actually a 4" flush valve, it really is very strong and fast.

Does it make any sense to think that replacing the flush valve with a regular flapper (smaller than 4" if possible), could slow/weaken the flush enough to alleviate the issue despite possibly less-than-adequate venting?

It has a 3" outlet with a 4" flapper over it. It's a funnel. No different than the other 3" valves except they can advertise with the number 4.
When you pour oil in your car engine using a funnel, it's still the small end that determines how fast the oil pours in.

And with the Champion, they have the flapper so much higher than the other brands, that unless everything is adjusted just right, it's sometimes hard to make the flush work right. It leaves a lot of water in the tank, which over times collects a lot of sediment.

3" outlet on both the old style Champion and the new style.
