Thermocouple question

Gas fireplace keeps going out. It has a thermopile and a thermocouple. I have a thermocouple that looks just like this one in pic. Are there different ratings on these things. Or are they all compatible

The resistance change per degree and the actual resistance can vary. So, while it might work, it might not. You'd need to know the resistance your system was designed for. The manual might have a chart that shows temperature and resistance values...if you've got a good meter and thermometer, you can check if you don't have the specs for the one you have.

Thermocouples put out 35 mv dc
Thermopiles put out 750 mv dc
To check the voltage takes two people one to lite the pilot the other to measure the voltage.
Pull the whole pilot assembly should have a model on it just google or ebay should have no problem finding one might even find one with a piezo igniter.
