Corpus Christi residents can’t use their tap water until further notice.
A back-flow incident in its industrial district had possibly contaminated drinking water with an “unknown chemical substance.”
The city is telling its more than 320,000 residents to not use its tap water, to avoid using it to prepare food, shower or wash dishes or clothes — until advised otherwise. The city called on residents to use bottled water instead, which has caused many stores to sell out of water.

Normally when an you are pulling off the water grid, you would have a method and/or device to prevent cross contamination. Something like a back flow device. Any home with irrigation would have that, and restaurants do. It's most of what plumbing is, preventing contamination from user to user. It's what separates most of the world. In some countries, water isn't safe to drink. In 1st world countries, we pride ourselves that the rules and regulations, knowledge and effort have kept our water sources usable to everyone. Not just the few that can afford bottled water.
A chemical leak from an asphalt plant. An incident report that described the leak as a “backflow incident from a chemical tank impacting the public water system.
We are reaching a time in our development, where many miles of water lines in the ground will need replacement. There's going to be a lot of work for the trades in the future, if our water is going to be deemed safe.
