Tankless holding tank?

Would it be possible to have a 12kw tankless water heater going to a 20 gallon small water heater as a holding tank?
Reasons:
I could use smaller amp breakers, not 2x40A for a 18kw in my 200A breaker box.
I could draw a continuous small stream of hot water and not have to have the big stream that tankless requires to keep healing.

20 gallon heater has a 2000 watt single element 120 vac pulls 17 amps. Heater to pass code would have to wired with 10 gauge with a 25 amp breaker. Tankless heaters turn on around .5 gpm. Never have seen a adjustment . Where at higher flow rate the hot water line between the two heaters might trigger the storage heater on for a few seconds.

What performance are you trying to achieve? Are you using the second water heater as a booster heater?

No, I'm trying to get the amperage needed down. Also want to be able to run a small stream of hot water without the tankless going back to cold. Figured when the hot holding tank would let me do that.

Yeah a tankless heater doesn't care if your using it fill a water heater. Vise versa is a no go though. Most tankless water heaters should give you a small stream. I guess it depends on the heater. Some of the old or really cheap ones are pretty crappy.
