I am replacing my cast iron. The 3in cast iron goes thru roof boot. I was gonna pull it out also, but I've become concerned the boot won't fit the pvc replacement pipe properly since they have different od's. Can I cut the cast iron a little below the roof and just leave it? If so, what coupling to make the transition and do u need to support the remaining cast iron since it will only be a few feet long? Thanks all.

There are specialty transition ftgs for all types of piping.
Mission makes one CP33. Only use a full shielded stainless steel band and not just rubber with two hose clamps.
If your stack is straight up, then 2 ft of CI poissibly ok.
It is ideal when the stack is straight to use a 'riser clamp' at the ceiling joist below. They make short eared ones too.
