Install sump pump drilled 27 3/8" holes 3" from bottom. Sump comes on for 15-20 seconds. Constantly have 7" of water in sump pit. Should additional holes be drill higher to allow additional water so pump would cycle less. After sump runs water level comes back quickly to 7" level. Have a 1/3 hp zoeller pump original used 1/2 but sump ran for about 5 seconds. Keeps running out of water in sump pit. Pump has a 3" to 7.5" float range.

I think increasing the float range and attaching the cord higher will reduce cycling. That would usually be done by lengthening the tether.

Plugging the 27 low holes, and replacing them with high holes would probably reduce cycling. I am thinking that may reduce the total flow by not trying to lower the water table as much.

Just adding higher holes will not reduce cycling IMO, but I don't think it would hurt.

3/8 holes are pretty big. They might allow pieces of your gravel in.

I've had excellent results using a HydroCheck HC6000 "Hi-Lo Sump Pump Controller" with a manual pump. No floats to hang up and no mechanical switches to go bad. There are two sensors so you can set the on/off height where it works best for your situation and to reduce short cycling.

I've installed the HydroCheck HC6000 in about 8 systems for friends and family. Been flawless for 10+ years.
