I had to replace my pump and was limited to the orientation of how the pump sits in the sump. The manual says not to put the float switch directly under the water inlet. Mine is 0retty close to directly under it. Why is this discouraged? Should I try to reconfigure my set up?

I am thinking they don't want a slug of water to hit the float, and drive the float down momentarily.

The float can become plastered with paper and stop functioning. Had one a couple of weeks ago. Cleaned it off and let it cycle a few times and it seemed to be fixed. This float was at the 10 o'clock position and the inlet was at 6. The water poured into the tank rather violently and the paper goods were swirling around in there quite a bit and settling on the float.
