Can anyone help me identify the type of tub/shower faucet this is. I am trying to help a neighbor rebuild it. The fixture has to be at least 35-40 years old as that is how long they have been in the house and have not replaced it. I determined that it is a 16 point broach, 8 inch centers. On the brass housing, the only thing is a number 2 on the center portion on the back. The valve stem seems to have a plastic sleeve over it that is threaded for the fitting to screw onto. The knobs have the small plastic inserts to label hot cold and diverter direction.

Sorry that this is not much to go on.

Thank you.

Given the wall is already damaged on the left it appears, it might make more sense to use a renovation plate and update the whole thing to a new valve. This one is from Delta, but there are other shapes and styles from them and others...then, you just add a new valve. The total cost, might not be all that much more, and from a safety standpoint, much safer than a valve that old. All new ones are required to have anti-scald tech. The renovation plate should give you enough room, after cutting the wall, to deal with the plumbing behind.

Thanks for the feedback jadnashua. I think that is probably beyond my personal skill set. I'm OK with changing some valve stems, but whole replacement... And they are isolating and are terrified of having someone else come in the house with the COVID stuff going on.

Someone might see this and have an idea of the brand.
Thanks. I'm hoping so. I don;t want to pull the valve stem until I have a pretty good idea what the replacement is so I know I can get my paws on it. Pretty sure if I pull it out, putting the same one back in is going to be problematic.

The tub/shower valve is made by Sterling. You can get a factory rebuild kit # "102KIT" or an aftermarket rebuild kit # "RBK4574"

Wow thank you! I was thinking maybe Koehler or Sterling but I did not find anything that was an exact match. That is spot on. I will find one and order it right up. They will be so thrilled. Thanks again for the super help.

For about the price of the rebuild kit (around $100) you could put in a safer modern anti-scald valve, at least in parts costs. That could be a plus when it comes time to sell the house, too. It would also cover that hole in the wall as a bonus if you picked a remodel plate the right shape.

Wanted to thank @Marlinman again for the help. The rebuild kit was spot on. Went with a Lasco 3 hole Smitty Plate to cover the wall damage
