To prevent sewer gas come coming out of the sink it should have a p-trap that is vented to break the siphon on the trap. The purpose of the trap is to hold water which acts as a barrier to air moving through the piping.
You can achieve that with an AAV, a device that allows air to be sucked in while draining the sink, but stays sealed otherwise. It prevents the trap from siphoning.
