New here with what I expect is a simple question...
I replaced the pivot rod in the downstairs bathroom sink a few years ago, but at some point the lift rod stopped moving the stopper. Investigating this, the piece of rod that connects with the stopper actually broke off. (The ball and that section of rod are plastic and were one piece.) I bought a replacement pivot rod and this time the rod is all metal, but it leaks. Then I realized there are different sized pivot balls. I must have gotten lucky the first time. This time the ball is apparently a bit too small to make good contact. The kit didn't include its own gasket(s), and as I can't seem to buy them separately, I may need to buy a different kit. Question: it seems to me that the size of the ball matters only when you're mating it with existing gaskets. If the kit includes the gaskets, then I'm guessing it should work regardless of what was there before. Right or wrong?
Basically, I'm just trying to figure out what to buy next. There are kits with (I think) three different pivot balls, and I expect that would work, too. Or...it just occurred to me...maybe I could take one or both of plastic gaskets and shove a small o-ring (etc.) behind them to fill the space. I've currently removed both plastic gaskets, but am not sure if there is anything left in the drain pipe side.
Does anyone have suggestions? The sink fixture is some old, generic Home Depot or Lowes brand, so knowing that likely won't help. Thanks!
