The hassle with using a valve to prioritize the shower head versus the diverter tub spout is that the line from the valve to the showerhead will stay full of water, and when you turn it on later, will give you a few seconds of potentially quite cool water! When using a diverter tub spout, that water in the riser drains out. It will still take a little time for the pipe to warm up, causing it to be cooler, but not as severe as a long slug of cold water already there.
Lots of ways to solve your desired situation, though.
You do not really want to use 1/2" pex to the tub spout, though. At least that section of the plumbing should be full diameter piping.
