The water pressure in our shower on the top floor of a three family house is so light it's almost unusable. The 2nd and 1st floor apartments have decent pressure and their showers are located on the same walls in their bathrooms. Our shower is on an adjacent wall, so it seems that the pipes for our shower have taken a few 90 degree turns. Will relocating the shower pipes to the same wall as the floors below improve the pressure? Or, if the landlord is unwilling to do this, can we install a pressure booster on our floor or can it only be installed where the city water enters the building in the basement?

First find out if you have a pressure REDUCING valve on the incoming water line. If you do NOT have your own water heater, you would need TWO pressure boosters and most are not made for hot water, or a single one in the basement for the entire house.

Is it an old building in NYC? Do you have copper or galvanized pipe? If galvanize there could be crud or corrosion inside the pipe and it's slowly closing up. A landlord problem.

Yup. Most likely galvanized. Getting the landlord to replace the pipes is the tricky problem
