Thought I posted this but may not have. A few weeks ago my 2nd. floor shower started to leak thru the first floor ceiling only when the shower is running and someone is in it. Takes about 10 minutes for it to leak. Things I have done:
1- cut open first floor ceiling to locate where the water is coming from
Appears to be coming from the wall closest to upstairs plumbing but I know water goes wherever it wants.
2- Hoping it was just the cartridge or valve, replaced them (Hansgroughe TB2), did not resolve the issue.
3- Although I know pipes are under constant pressure and if leaking should leak all the time, I did cut open sheetrock behind the pipes, ran the shower for 20 minutes and monitored pipes for leaks, no leaks.
4- I now believe it to be the drain or god forbid the pan. Removed the grate from drain (Schluter) but the piece the grate goes in is grouted in.
5- All grout appears to be in place, none missing.
6- Through experimentation I have determined it leaks only when someone is in the shower, the floor has no detectable flex. The floor is 2X2 tile.
6- Shower was installed 10-15 years ago using Kerdi, don't remember if a concrete bed was laid or not but I believe it was as I have good slope from all direction to the drain.
Not really sure what my next move is except to finish removing the grate (if possible) and take a good look in the drain. Anybody have any ideas.
Thanks in advance.
