Shower Help

Ok need some help. Can this be salvaged and if not what is compatible to do an easier replacement.

1. Had a small drip from cold water from tub spout. (3 knob unsure of brand maybe Delta circa 1990s) Replaced washers on both cold, hot and shower diverter.

2 Put back in and before sealing up the fixtures went to test and water was leaking out (which looks like the shower pipe) behind the tub in the access panel (which it never did before.

3. Water off now but drip is now more frequent from tub spout.

Now what? Very stuck DIYer. How can i fix or what should I replace with? Thank you.

Update.

So messed up the diverter during the test and replacement part from delta does not fit in the sleeve. What can I do? Will a replacement sleeve fit in the threading???? Should I try to reuse the old diverter or order a new sleeve?
