Shower drain basic question

I recently brought a apartment.
Please see pictures of shower drain below.
I asked my super if there were other parts of a drain that need to be placed in the hole.
To me, it appears that there is some plumbing missing.
Super said all i need to do is place a strainer on it and I am good to go.

Is this all I need or am I missing parts of the drain/plumbing?
Do not want to screw up the floor as I cannot renovation for the next few years.

Any advice is appreciated.
I have no plumbing knowledge.

He's right. It just needs a strainer.

A strainer would work perfectly fine. Nothing else is required.
