Shocked well, didn't flush.

Someone in the household who was visiting and trying to help, shocked our 60 ft well by pouring a bottle of household bleach down the well cap, and left it there. We didn't flush it out. We also have a UV system that was not bypassed. I'm wondering how likely it is this amount of bleach would impact/destroy my septic system bugs? Is there any way to test it. I have been poring the dregs of home brewed beer down the drain.. maybe that could save me?!

If there's iron in the water it will be oxidized by the chlorine and may stick to the quartz sleeve over the UV bulb, so you'll want to clean that off. Don't touch the bulb with your fingers. Other than running the water to clear the chlorine, you can go to the pharmacy and get some ascorbic acid, I've been told that it will neutralize the chlorine.

Thanks, I'll definitely clean the UV Bulb. I should have mentioned that this happened 6 weeks ago, I just found out now they didn't flush it out with the outdoor hose.. so my big worry is the septic. Would the chlorine evaporate or neutralize in its own in the well/system?

The chlorine will dissipate quickly in the septic tank. Every time you flush poop down the toilet, you are putting bugs in the tank. That is all you need. I wouldn't worry about it. You are just wasting beer.
