Shelf life of Pipe Dope

Just scouring the shelves...and can't seem to fine my can of blue block so I decided to see what gasoila ......

Came across Gasoila site and they blurb, 1 year shelf life, etc.

For DOPE, is it generally 1 year or as long as the consistency is fine ?

When the consistency is too thick, just add some mineral oil, (or pipe thread cutting oil), and stir. The "Shelf life" is usually how long it takes you to use the ENTIRE container. As my did used to say, the first half of the can goes fast. The second half lasts forever, just keep adding oil.

You can buy pipe dope in a small tube. It comes out soft as a paste, to the last drop.

That is okay for a DIYer who only needs it once every few months, but if you use a lot of it, that would be comparable to buying a Cadillac one piece at a time.
