My shallow well jet pump will operate fine all day long while in use.

After it sits overnight it loses its prime and will not pump.

I have a check valve on the supply side just before the pump, its working properly.

I don't know if there is a foot valve in the well or not. Just bought the house a year ago.

There is only 2' of suction line exposed in the basement.

Question:
Should there be the same pressure reading on the supply line before the check valve as there is on the gauge on the pump?

Thank you.

The supply line will show a vacuum. The tank side will see positive pressure from 30 to 50. You have a leak prior to the check valve. Could even be at the inlet of the check valve. A foot valve instead is best if you can get down the well. If not, placing the check valve as close to the well eliminates as many possible places for a leak that you can do.
