I'm installing a Cabinet-Type softener with a Fleck 5600SXT. It's actually a very nice unit (as opposed to the Box Store offerings), with a quality cabinet by Clack, Fleck 3/4" composite bypass, name brand 8% resin, gravel, etc. However, the set-up instructions are poor at best and I've been unable to verify whether or not the Fleck 5600SXT was properly set to match this particular application.

HELP!!!!

Typically only one person will be using water. Maybe a second person once a month for the weekend.

Municipal water system

Water is Hard - 500ppm (29 grains)

No Iron

The softener was advertised as a 32,000 grain unit and came with 1 cubic foot of resin (+ gravel).

Supply line is 3/4" pex

All fixtures are restricted flow units, with the exception of a Roman Tub Faucet, which is rarely used.

Any ideas as to how I need to program the 5600 for this application?

Thanks Forum Members!

Check for a BLFC label. If it says 0.5, then you could do this:

System info (not programmed)
salt lb/cuft = 7.5 ; A choice ( efficiency vs capacity)
BLFC = 0.5 ; Brine Refill rate GPM
cubic ft resin = 1 ; ft3 resin = (nominal grains)/32,000
Compensated hardness = 34 ; including any compensation
People = 1 ; gallons affects reserve calc
Estimated gal/day = 60 ; 60 gal per person typical calc
Estimated days/regen = 10.80 ; Computed days ignoring reserve
Fleck 5600SXT Settings:
DF = Gal ; Units
VT = dF1b ; Downflw/Upflw, Single Backwash
CT = Fd ; Meter Delayed regen trigger
NT = 1 ; Number of tanks
C = 23.0 ; capacity in 1000 grains
H = 34 ; Hardness-- 29 grains plus high-hardness compensation
RS = rc ; rc says use gallons vs percent
RC = 60 ; Reserve capacity gallons
DO = 28 ; Day Override (28 if no iron)
RT = 2:00 ; Regen time (default 2 AM)
BW = 5 ; Backwash (minutes)
Bd = 60 ; Brine draw minutes
RR = 5 ; Rapid Rinse minutes
BF = 5 ; Brine fill minutes
FM = ____0.7 ; see https://terrylove.com/forums/index.php?attachments/img_fleck5600sxt_flow-png.31592/

Reach4 - Thanks for your response and my apologies for not responding sooner.

Is the BLFC label you mention an actual label or tag? If so, I can't find one.

Information on the Aquatell website recommends the "C" setting on a 32K system (1 cu.ft. resin) be set at 20 (capacity in 1,000 grains). I'm curious as to why you recommended a setting of 23?

Lastly, I was curious as to why you recommended a "hard water compensation" resulting in the "H" being set at 34, instead of the measured hardness of 29?

I appreciate you taking the time to educate Greenhorns such as myself.

Look in this area:

The less salt per cubic ft, the more salt efficient, but more hardness breakthrough. Recommended for good balanced is usually 6 to 8 lb of salt per cubic ft of resin.

BLFC = 0.5
cubic ft resin = 1

Alternative C and BF pairs:
lb/cuft ; C= ; BF= ;
6.000 ; 20.0 ; 4 ; A little less salt used and a little hardness breakthrough but still good
7.500 ; 23.0 ; 5 ; What I chose in the numbers above.
9.000 ; 25.7 ; 6 ; More salt used but a little softer water.

Lastly, I was curious as to why you recommended a "hard water compensation" resulting in the "H" being set at 34, instead of the measured hardness of 29?
