I discovered a hole in my front lawn where my sewage cleanout cap used to be. It seems the cap fell apart and down into the sewage line. There is a female adapter on the top of the 4" PVC pipe that runs straight down to the sewage line. This adapter has also started to fall apart to the point where a new cap will not seal over the hole completely.
I believe the setup consists of a 4" vertical pipe with a female threaded adapter slipped over the top of the pipe. My plan is to dig below the adapter, pull it off and then replace it by slipping a new one over the pipe. But then I remembered about cement. I assume the adapter has been joined to the pipe with cement.
Is it going to be possible for me to undo this joint if it has in fact been cemented? Maybe by applying heat some how?
If not I suppose I'll have to dig down even further so I can cut the pipe below the adapter with a hack saw , but now my cleanout cap would be underground.
Can anyone offer some advice here?
Thank you
